News - More 300 Details

The release date for 300 is getting closer and closer, the offical site is up with some downloads available including a selection of fine stylized wallpapers and screensavers. The 300 website also has a rather nifty 'making of' section where amongst other things you can see the concept art to final movie image showreels, which gives you a nice insight into how the look of the movie was acheived.

Here is the official story detail on 300 from Warner - 'Based on the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller, 300 is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, in which King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. Facing insurmountable odds, their valor and sacrifice inspired all of Greece to unite against their Persian enemy, drawing a line in the sand for democracy. The film brings Miller's (Sin City) acclaimed graphic novel to life by combining live action with virtual backgrounds that capture his distinct vision of this ancient historic tale.'

Other details on the website is that they have a link to the 300 movie art book, which is up on the darkhouse website links are below. The book has images taking you from comic to concept to film to special effects and contains over 100 pages of photos, concept art and details about the movie.

For anyone who is itching to see this movie like i am, then think about watching Beowulf and Grendel, which also stars Gerard Butler, this time as Beowulf. You can see if you think Butler is going to be up the role of King Leonidas in 300. Its also set in a fantastical period, involving swords witches and giant trolls all wrapped up with some weightier concepts. Well worth checking out and ill be writing a review on it as soon as i find time.
